Meet Impi, the TD5 130 Defender that our pal and co-founder, Gerard took on countless African expeditions.

Let’s face it: A car special enough to earn the name Impi (meaning warrior in Zulu) from Big G—who has driven more Landy vehicles than most anyone on the planet—deserves to be the star of an epic love story.

So here ya go... When Gerard decided it was time to ask for his future wife Taryn’s hand, he needed a ring. So he made the decision to sell his beloved Impi.

Worth it, you ask? According to Gerard, a life with Taryn (and their sweet son, Nathan) was clearly worth ending his affair with Impi. From our visits with G and Taryn, we 100 percent agree (which is saying a lot because Big G is one special guy)!

Not surprisingly, even from the USA, we can see some shared character traits between Gerard’s two loves: In history, Impi warfare was characterized by unity, mobility and clear leadership.

Taryn has followed her husband to keep their family together and soldiered through some scary moments (elephant attack, anyone?) including their most recent unplanned shift from Namibia back to South Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic.

So there you have it. When one story ends, another begins. Here’s to the love of legendary cars and even stronger women.
